Ladybug Diagram

Because we will be learning about ladybugs, it is important to know their different parts. The diagram below demonstrates the many different parts of a ladybug. Are there any similarities between a human body and a ladybug body? What are the differences?

With this diagram below, we can use it to observe and examine the ladybugs we will be raising in our classroom. It is important for us to be able to recognize the different parts of a ladybug so that we become familiar with them.

Instructional Imaging in Classrooms

I think the advances in technology we have to date are incredible. With all of these new innovations we are able to open doors in which we never thought were possible. Fortunately for teachers, we are able to introduce these new innovations to our students. Although there will always be drawbacks such as cost and funding for these technological advances, we will continue to have the opportunities to learn about as well as work with these tools.

Most students love to draw and create images on paper with a variety of utensils like crayons, markers, colored pencils, pens, paint, etc. Now, with our new advances with technology, students have the capabilities to draw virtually. Being able to use programs such as Microsoft's "Paint" and Apple's "Paint and Draw" allows our students to transfer their creativity from paper to PC.

Having this type of opportunity in a classroom gives our students the abilities to reach beyond the typical textbook work into a new type of classroom. Even though many schools are still struggling to provide their students with these technological advancments, we are continuing to strive everyday to make these opportunities a reality. Students who learn how to use innovations are given the capabilities to create not only "Paint" images but also videos, audio files and so many other things! Even with the struggling economy and lacking the capabilities to provide these opportunities for all schools in our society, the North Carolina Standard Course of Study implies that we include media and technology within our curriculums. I think it is very important that we as prospective teachers learn ways to incorporate this into our classes and try our best to provide these special and critical "Virtual Thinking" opportunties to our students.

Educational Technology

For me, it has been quite the experience as a prospective teacher to see a vast difference in education from the time I was in school until now. When I was younger I experienced rather large computers that no one would consider stealing because they were twice as big as them, floppy disks that were very floppy, chalkboards (no, not white boards) and read alouds with cassett tapes and very large headsets. In several of the classrooms that I have observed there has been white boards, ipods, smartboards, flat screens and CDs. I try to imagine what my education would consist of if I had to do it all over again. Would I be more technologically savvy? Or would I be in the same place I am today?

I like to consider myself technologically savvy. Dealing with technology on a day-to-day basis has really helped me become comfortable with electronics and our innovative culture. Through the readings I was able to pull out some things that I found rather interesting.

Operating systems are what establishes uniform in procedures. When reading about OSs, I learned that an educational operating system might consist of grammar and syntax system or even rules for a classroom and the disciplinary policy that is followed. Tying into this topic, operating systems are the first application that is automatically loaded once the computer is turned on. This resembles the rules and procedures because when a school year begins, teachers and administration introduce the rules and procedures to the students. Rules and procedures should be introduced rather quickly in order to keep the system running smoothly which is exactly what the operating system does for a computer.
